Selection Day events take place on weekday afternoons/evenings and Saturday mornings. The Selection Day event will last about 3½ hours. You will be grouped with four to eight other candidates. Selection Days are facilitated by NYC Department of Education employees known as Onsite Interviewers, and most Onsite Interviewers currently teach in high-need schools in NYC or are alumni of either the NYC Teaching Fellows or the NYC Teaching Collaborative.

Log in to your Zoom Selection Day at least 15 minutes before your event. Test that your webcam, microphone and internet connection are working adequately. Be certain that you are in a quiet location and that your internet access will be consistent throughout the entire interview event. Interviewers will invite you into the Zoom interview room when they are ready. |

Teaching Samples |
Each candidate teaches their 5-minute Teaching Sample Lesson. There will be 1 minute of preparation time for candidates to set up between Teaching Sample Lessons. During your teaching sample lesson, your Online Interviewer will interrupt you twice. Once to ask you a question about your lesson and once more to give you a one-minute warning. |

Each candidate has ten minutes to answer two questions reflecting on their teaching sample lesson. |

Online Interviewers will lead a session in which candidates will learn and apply a new teaching skill. |

Candidates will reteach a portion of their Teaching Sample Lesson, including the new skill learned in the Group Activity. |

Feedback Survey |
A day or two after the interview, all candidates will be emailed a 15-minute survey to provide feedback about their Selection Day event. |
